Best Wedding Photographers Phoenix | Looking camera ready on your wedding day

Wedding makeup can be a real minefield, and as your photos will be a permanent record of your big event, it’s important to get it right and ensure your makeup is designed to look great in the flesh and on film too. Take a look at these tips for everything you need to know to look amazing on your big day and in all your precious snaps.

1. It is essential to try out your wedding hair and makeup before your day, otherwise you may end up with a look that doesn’t suit you or that you don’t feel comfortable with. It is best not to choose makeup that’s too drastically different from what you would normally wear so instead of going for something completely new, just turn the volume up a little on your favourite style. Start by moisturising and applying a primer, which will give your skin a more even appearance on camera. Leave moisturiser to absorb into your skin for a few minutes before you apply makeup.

2. Avoid foundations that contain spf as they can sometimes look chalky and white on film. Blend carefully around the hair and jawline to stop tide marks and check your foundation shade in natural light as it’s likely you’ll have pictures taken outside.

3. A matt bronzer that’s one shade darker than your skin tone will give you a healthy glow without running the risk of looking orange. Don’t forget to bronze your shoulders and décolletage too if you’re wearing a strapless gown and give your boobs a boost by sweeping bronzer up your cleavage. Use blusher even if you don’t normally as it will stop you from looking washed out under a camera flash. Pink and peach tones will suit most types of skin but use a little more than you normally would.

4. An eye base will keep your eye shadow and eyeliner in place all day and stop any smudges. Matt shadow usually translates better on camera than anything with a shimmer, but adding a touch of shiner to the corner of each eyelid will really make your eyes pop. The best way to define your eyes is with black liquid liner and lashings of mascara – a waterproof mascara won’t run so it’s ideal for teary moments. Use a lip liner too and fill in your lips using a lipstick brush as this will help your lipstick last longer.

5. Make like a red carpet celebrity and try a few tricks to find the most flattering pose for photographs. Instead of facing the camera head on, tilt your body slightly to the side to instantly lose a few pounds. A hand on the hip will give you a small waist and heels will help you stand more elegantly, even if you can’t see them under your dress. To avoid the dreaded double chin lift your tongue up to the roof of your mouth when you smile which will instantly tighten your neck area and make it look slimmer.
